Only God knows how I juggle it all. Holding down a 9to5 job, studying for my degree, maintaining distinctions, shooting for the blog, freelance styling and writing, establishing a company (Pigments) and now i have added “thrift pop-up market” in all of this. Well to be honest its called impeccable time management, the type where you can’t even find yourself engaging in meaningless conversations. As the pop-culture kids often utter the saying, “You have as many hours in a day as Beyonce!” i guess it’s true to some extent, although Beyonce has assistants and I don’t.
In 2015 I made a conscious decision to be happy and to eliminate anything that gave me bad vibes this resulted in 2015 being one of those fantastic years in my 25 years on this earth. I was genuinely and unapologetically happy, the type that rubbed off on others.
With 8 days into this new year, I still maintain the motto of being genuinely and unapologetically happy but now I have added two more other mottos and they are:
· To be a Doer. To get off my ass and do.
· To apply 100% of myself in all tasks
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Oh what a year it has been. What a productive year it has been for me academically. I am excited to be progressing to another academic year but for now I will immerse myself in the excitement of what it is to being progressive. This year I turned 25, I managed to start a company (Pigments) and passed my academics, and that is all that matters to me currently.
I took a much needed hiatus from the blog and now I am back, back to normal scheduling.
I turned 25 just the other day, that’s a big number for me and with it came some introspection. I am currently in a big rebranding phase with my blog which is now no longer called All Things Intriguing but rather Pigments as I am extending the business, offering other services which you will hear about in the long run but for now please be patient with me. I am not yet officially welcoming you to Pigments but rather making you aware of the name change.
It feels good to be back. Welcome me to being 25 and trying new business ventures.
If you don’t know by now I am in Joburg. As part of my visit I am meeting some inspiring individuals, this place sure looks good on me. I will make the move to Joburg all in good time. But for now i’m here for work and pure leisure. Here the weather has been nothing but pleasant, I believe in Cape Town it is raining and rare with sunshine. I have been living in frocks and shorts whilst here in Joburg.
I live a really busy life. One where I find myself getting a maximum of four hours sleep on some nights and spend most of my weekends trying to catch up and meet deadlines. In all this I tend to neglect my health and beauty routiune. I just wash my face with luke warm water, apply the nearest moisturiser and I’m out the house to yet another client meeting or to meet a client deadline.
But as busy as I am, looking well put together and presentable is imperative, as i am interacting with new people and first impressions last.
I have a mild case of acne, so I really need to look after my skin. Booking facials are just not realistic for me … I never have the luxury of time.
After reading my VISI article, my little 12 year old cousin came up to me and asked, what do I do for a living? See with little boys you must always come across as a superhero coz they think highly of you, especially with him knowing that I have all the best pairs of sneakers that he dreams of owning. He thinks I’m cool, so my answer had to satisfy that frame of mind.
There was a quick pause before I answered. I told him that I’m an all round cool person, that was coupled by exaggerated hand gestures showing how all-round I am. He didn’t buy my story, that I get paid to be an all round cool person in order to survive. He then resorted to asking me closed ended questions such as, “Are you a model? Coz I see you in Mommy’s magazines all the time.” No. “Are you a photographer?” No. “Are you a journalist?” No. Then my uncle interjected “Siki is a jack-of-all-trades and a Master in none!” Jerk! He’s my uncle I remembered.
